Between spinoff and standalone, 2019 unveils a year rich in cinematographic novelties which involve superheroes among the protagonists. The production companies most renowned for the creation of cinecomics are undoubtedly Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Extended Universe, the colossals of the world of comics that have expanded their horizons for some time now, reaching the big screen. Both Marvel and DC have several important cards to play for next year, and below we have summarized those we find most interesting.

Marvel Cinematic Universe: a 2019 dominated by women and mutants

Among the films of MCU scheduled for the coming year, leading roles will be occupied by female protagonists, not all of them with good intentions. Then, as always, the world of mutants will complete the picture.

X Men: Dark Phoenix – Release Date February 14, 2019 (USA): already appearing in X Men: Final Conflict, Fenice Nera has been so successful that she has earned a film for herself. The character will be played by Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones) and will have with her the young mutants of X-Men: The Origins.

Captain Marvel – Release Date March 6, 2019 (Italy): Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel, played by Brie Larson, has also earned a film for herself. We had already seen her in Avengers: Infinity War, and many speculate that creating a film about her is a move by Marvel to counter the success of DC’s Wonder Woman.

Avengers 4 – Release date April 25, 2019 (Italy): not much is known about the final chapter of the saga of the Avengers (and of phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe). We speculate that the film should resume the storyline of Infinity War with the battle between the superheroes and Thanos, and that we could witness a further overlap with Guardians of the Galaxy.

Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 – Release date July 5, 2019 (USA): it is not known precisely whether the choice to include Tom Holland as Peter Parker is due to the contractual costs that bind Marvel to the actor for 6 films, but what is certain is that this film initiates phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

New Mutants – Release Date August 2, 2019 (USA): the film is part of the X-Men saga, but it is still a spinoff of the new mutants including Blink, Warpath and Sunspot. They have already appeared in the surreal X-Men: days of a past future. Director Josh Boone seems to have done everything to add a touch of horror to the film: we’ll just have to wait and see!

DC Extended Universe points to giants in 2019

Aquaman – Release date January 1, 2019 (Italy): after several postponements DC will at last open the year with the highly anticipated film starring the now famous Jason Mamoa.

Shazam! – Release date April 5, 2019 (USA): rumors about this film have been numerous and now the moment of its release is approaching. We know only that the strength of the film is its fresh and ironic streak combined with the epicity characteristic of the grand classic superheroes.

Wonder Woman 2 – Release date November 1, 2019: given the success of the first film based on the most famous female character in the world of DC Comics, its sequel was also created and scheduled. In the role of Diana Price, we will again see Gal Gadot.
