About one month ago we wondered if we were already into Internet of Things. We did not have any answer, but what it’s true is that there already are a lot Internet of Things applications, surrounding our day-to-day life. We gave you some examples, like home automations, wearable technology and smart cities. And today, we are demonstrating to you that there are really a lot of examples, which you may are already be experiencing!

#1 – Smart illumination

With innovative illumination sets, you can decide when to turn on or turn off lights with a simple tap on your smartphone. And you can also decide the intensity of lights. Or you can schedule your lights at home to turn on at a specific time – maybe in the morning, in order to wake you up – or at night, when you fall asleep. Another way: you’re receiving a phone call, and the lights start to turn up at intermittence. And many other ways are possible: just use your imagination.

#2 – Remote control of apps

One of the most interesting Internet of Things applications is the connection between your mobile apps with home furniture and home appliances, like the oven, the refrigerator, the coffee machine, the air conditioning system and so on. Just think you’re still at the office, but running late on dinner, so you can order your oven to turn on and starting to heat itself. Or you just woke up, still in bed, and you want to heat the coffee machine up.

#3 – Smart security

“Remember that time when you used to use your keys to get inside your home?” Well, this could be soon a sentence you will easily say. And home alarms, too, will be soon forgotten. And security keys too. With smart security every object will be connected to your smartphone, and if you will have guests at home, when they ring you will see them appear on your screen.

#4 – Self-driving cars

Google has already realized one self-driving car, after the company started to develop one years ago. Google, and many other automotive companies, wish to soon market their self-driving cars to spread electricity cars and to sustain environmental compatibility. And yes, you will use them with your smartphone. If you wish to know more about this, read Self-driving cars: innovations in automotive.

#5 – Autonomous gardens

Taking care of your lawn is some very tiring activity, especially if you have a little time to dedicate to it. Cutting grass with lawn mowers or aerating your garden with special tools won’t be a problem anymore with the right gadgets and the right smartphone apps. If you have to water your garden, for example, you will be able to automate it from your smartphone. And if you forgot to water your flowers, an app will show it to you and remember to do it.

#6 – Wearable tech

Wearable technology is every connected and smart object that you can actually wear, like smartwatches, fitness trackers, smart eyewear and smart clothing. We already wrote about it in Wearable technology: what it is, and some examples. In this case, technology aims to improve users’ life, helping to resolve everyday issues, or to please your days. The most promising industry concerns the medical devices: just imagine a heart-beat tracker that respects your sleep cycle, and wakes you up at the right time. A better life, isn’t it?

#7 – Drones

Drones could be categorized in a stand-alone category, but their functioning and applications have a lot to do with Internet of Things. Their anti-collision technology needs data to work, so that they can become autonomous and connected objects. Real-life applications? Amazon wants to use drones as porters, instead of carriers.

#8 – Smart cities

Smart cities need smart citizens, first of all. The point is to improve quality life and the overall environment, and this improvement can pass through technology. Broadband connections, pervasive connectivity, smart traffic lights, and smart parkings are some examples.

#9 – Smart networks

Every Internet of Things changement needs a fundemental base: connectivity. The first infra-structure in which governments and institutions need to invest in are connectivity networks. You can’t load lots of big data, in fact, if you don’t have the right servers to sustain the data traffic. Only in this way we will be able to talk about Internet of Things.

#10 – Smart energy management

Smart energy management is strictly connected with home automation. A lot of energy suppliers are working in this industry, but not only they are: also Google has entered this market. The future application is to adjust your home temperature and environment thanks to your energy supplier, and the system will automatically minimize your consumptions, maximizing your benefits.
