As we had announced a short while ago, the 7th series of Game of Thrones began on the 16th July 2017.
The return of the series created by David Benioff has sent fans all over the world into raptures. Italian fans stayed up till 3 o’clock in the morning to watch the first episode, transmitted in the original language, simultaneously with the United States on Sky Atlantic.
There have been many manifestatios that anticipated the airing of this new season all around the world. In Milan, at the Castello Sforzesco, “winter” has arrived with the event “Il Trono di Spade – L’inverno al Castello” (Game of Thrones – Winter at the Castle). A “two day event” branded Game of Thrones, where, amongst concerts, dj sets and selfies on the Throne, fans waited for the airing of the premiere of the year.
The internet population has also unleashed on social media. On Twitter the hashtag #GameOfThrones has become one of the top trend topics in very short time.
Waiting for the new season with the “Marathron”
Some people have faced a very exerting television marathon before enjoying the premiere of the new season of Game of Thrones. We don’t mean TV, sofa and popcorn, but a real and proper race.
Infact, a group of runners left Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome to finish on the 16th July in Piazza Castello in Milan. What did they do during these two weeks? They ran at the rhythm of Game of Thrones, behind a lorry where there was a maxi-screen tuned in to the monothematic Sky Atlantic – Game of Thrones channel so they were able to watch all the six past seasons. One could say that they effectively earnt the first episode with the sweat of their brows.
What to expect in this seventh series
We can safely say, avoiding all spoiler alerts, that in this seventh series of Game of Thrones, women will be the true protagonists. We ended the past series with Cersei’s coronation as Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. She, together with other female figures, will be the heroines ready for anything to obtain their goals: to become the queen of swords.
In the first episode the long awaited for guest star Ed Sheeran makes his appearance. The British singer/songwriter plays the part of a soldier in the Lannister army and enchants Arya Stark with his beautiful voice. We don’t know whether in the end his appearance will just remain as a cameo, we will discover it en route.
The seventh season of Game of Thrones is waiting to be discovered, and we are just at the beginning.
