IFA Exhibition – Internationale Funkaussetellung Berlin – is an important technology event taking place every year in Berlin from the end of August until the first days of September. IFA’s influence on technology and consumer electronics markets is huge, so that the products presented during the Berliner week will be trend setters for months to come, just like it happens for CES in Las Vegas.

2016 IFA Edition is almost there (2nd to 7th September), and Tribe will participate to IFA to officially present new audio and travel products. We will talk about it soon.

In 2015, IFA made clear the technology and consumer electronic markets direction for last months of 2015 and early 2016, with contaminations from Internet of Things and wireless technologies.

What can we expect from IFA 2016?

The new generation of televisions: Ultra HD

In 2015 LG, Sony and Samsung presented a line of televisions, then confirmed in early 2016 at Las Vegas, with definition standard Ultra HD. In 2016, every one of this producer will launch their Blu-Ray player in UHD: Hollywood majors like Universal and Warner Bros are starting to release first movies in Blu-Ray UHD. For starters, these players will have high prices, but they will become more accessible to common users along Ultra HD Premium becoming the shooting standard for movie producers, as Tech Radar states.

The final wearable breakthrough

Last year every consumer electronics producer, stimulated by Apple release of Apple Watch, presented and launched their own smartwatch, but this year there will not be a lot of enthusiasm around this product. Wearable technology market, in fact, is moving towards other consumers needs, especially for medical devices like Fitbit.

Will home automation finally come to our houses?

In 2015 Samsung announced SmartThings hub, which promised to turn your house into a smart house connected to the web. This platform, launched at the end of 2015, allows integration between Samsung smart devices and Samsung home appliances, so you can manage everything from an app on your smartphone. But except for early adopters, home automation has not come yet to our houses. This is for two main reasons:

  • High prices
  • No connection between devices by different brands, especially for Google Nest

Many home automation announcements may come at CES 2017, but some brands could give an anticipation!

We leave you with this nice infographic by IFA, describing its numbers and making us understand how big of a technology event IFA is. And we are looking forward to it: see you in Berlin!
