After Peter Parker’s death, many believed the adventures of Spider-Man had come to an end, but instead, Marvel chose to continue with one of the most beloved comic and cinema super-heroes, inventing the character of Miles Morales. In the limited-edition strip published by Ultimate Fallout, the famous comic has unveiled the new identity of Spider-Man: he’s called Miles Morales, a coloued teenager born of an African-American father and a Hispanic mother. The new character perfectly embodies the characteristics of the “politically correct” hero, he has different abilities from his predecessor, but the same unmistakable amount of courage.
The designer of the new Spider-Man is Italian
The person who designed Miles Morales is Sara Pichelli, a 28-year-old artist from Marche who works full-time for Marvel Comics. “It took us about three months to create the new appearance of Spidey and the costume”. In an interview the young designer tells how she felt a great sense of responsibility to try not to disappoint the thousands of fans who were angry at the death of their beloved character, and to give them a new version of Spider-Man that they couldn’t not love.
The social impact of an African-American and Hispanic superhero
Exactly as it was for Black Panther, the creation of a black-skinned hero responds to a very specific social aspect. Society has for some time been showing the natural need to diversify ethnic and socially, and in this perspective a new colour of character is a synonym of a great evolution.

What the public most like about Miles Morales
Miles Morales combines physical and character aspects that immediately made him very popular with the public. On the one hand the melancholic side deriving from a “real” and “lived” life story, on the other a series of aesthetic characteristics and gestures that make Miles radically different from Peter Parker, while at the same time able to wear the daredevil Spider-Man clothes.
