Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be the first movie from the Star Wars Anthology series, a trilogy focusing on events happening in the same galaxy and in the same time as Star Wars movies. Rogue One takes place during the Age of Empire, in the temporal arch between the third episode – The Revenge of the Sith – and the fourth episode – A New Hope – of the main saga.
The movie is about events of a group of Rebels fighters, joining with the purpose to steal the plans of the Black Star, the fighting station of the Galactic Empire. Everything is about the facts previous to A New Hope, when Princess Leia Organa manages to escape with the secret plans and to deliver them to the Rebel Alliance. The intervention by the group of rebels is fundemental for the destroy of the Black Star, and up until now we did not know anything about them.
Differently from the main saga, in the spin-off there won’t be any supernatural powers helping the Rebel Alliance: Rogue One is a concrete movie, where common people have to join to fight the Empire only with their courage, wiliness and their own weapons, instead of depending on Jedis and the Force.
Jyn Erso is the main character, an arrogant girl with a turbolent past. She desides to use her abilities to contribute to the fight against the Empire. She is used to act on herself, and she allies with the Rebellion for a desperate mission.
Captain Cassian Andor is an official of the Alliance Intelligence, expert on the fighting field, where he developed the ability to stay cool under the enemy’s fire, and to complete missions with minimal resources.
Director Orson Krennic is the director of the Death Star project. A cruel but brilliant man, he is obsessed with the long-delayed completion of the fighting station, in order to deliver it to the Emperor.
K-2SO is an imperial re-programmed droid, now faithful to Alliance. For someone who does not know this, his appearance in the Rebel base may be alarming. His look, though, makes him a perfect secret agent, because he perfectly mimetizes on the imperial environment.
Saw Gerrera is a war veteran, signed on the body and on the spirit by decades of fighting. His health problems do not stop him to be determined, and he coordinates a prolonged riot against imperial occupation.
Bodhi Rook is a former imperial pilot, with marked technical and practical abilities. The courage is not the most prominent quality of his, and his anxiety may prejudice his performance on the fight against the Rebellion.
Chirrut Îmwe is a warrior monk. His blind eyes don’t prevent them to be a good fighter. Even though he does not use the Force, he was able to tune his body up through an intense physical and mental discipline.
Baze Malbus is a fighter with a hardened personality by the heavy imperial occupation. His cockiness, as its heavy repeat cannon, counteracts with the meditative spirituality of his best friend and landmark, Chirrut Îmwe.
