The wait is over; the cult series Game of Thrones is about to return to screens across the world with the long-awaited seventh season.
The War between the Seven Kingdoms is about to arrive and the announcement was given a few weeks ago with live coverage on the Facebook page for the fantasy series, created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss.
The live event on Facebook and the announcement of the release date
The announcement of the release date of the seventh season of Game of Thrones was among the most epic in the history of TV series. During the live Facebook event, in the centre of the shot, a block of ice had been placed.
Thanks to the interaction of fans, whose comment “hits” melted the block of ice, the much-anticipated date was revealed: 16th July 2017. On the American network HBO (and simultaneously on Sky in Italy), the adventures of the characters of the continent of Westeros and Essos will be shown.
Following the announcement of the start date for the seventh season, a trailer (entitled Long Walk) was shown which, however, did not reveal much in the way of plot developments.
The anticipation of the seventh season
The seventh season of Game of Thrones will focus on the lives of three characters: Cersei Lannister, Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow (played respectively by Lena Headet, Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington).
During the first scene of the promo, the three characters, disembarking from Essos, walk towards their respective Throne Rooms. Daenerys Targaryen approaches the seat carved into the stone, Jon Snow moves towards the Great Winter hall, while Cersei Lannister, being the new queen, walks towards the Throne of Swords.
The three main characters are rivals and aspiring King/Queens, because the intention of all is to obtain dominion of the land of Westeros.
Will the seventh season be the penultimate season?
The trailer allows a lot of room for the imagination; thus, at least until now, it has been difficult to reveal any spoilers. This is also because the series, from the sixth season, has been written before the books of George Martin.
The seventh season will consist of seven episodes, three fewer than previous seasons. Thought is already being given to the next season, the eighth, which will probably by the last season. It is also rumoured that the number of episodes produced will also decrease, falling from seven to six.
The long wait of audiences has been adequately satisfied, however, with the announcement of 5 spin-offs. At the moment little is known, but enough to placate fans regarding the future of the series.
Ed Sheeran, the guest star of the new series
With the arrival of the new season, talk is already turning to the Guest Stars who have taken part in the production. The screenwriter David Benioff announced during the SXSW Festival that among the various cameos, Ed Sheeran would also be making an appearance.
A few returns will also (maybe) be enjoyed. Indeed, even though his character Walder Frey was killed by Ayra Stark, actor David Bradley will return for this seventh season. For now there is an air of mystery surrounding his role.
The aspiring rulers of the land of Westeros are available in a USB version. There is Darneys, who aspires to the occupied throne of Cersei. And Jon Snow, who will have an important role in this new series, is also present. The Power Banks represented by the noble houses of the series, such as the Stark House and the Targaryen House, are also available.
Prepare yourself, for winter has arrived.
