In a few days – on 25th April to be exact – “Avengers: Infinity War” will finally reach the big screen, as the latest and possibly the most epic cinematic masterpiece from Marvel Studios. It tells the story of the greatest and most deadly reckoning of all time, which will be followed by a second episode expected in May 2019.
But let’s see how things stand, more or less, with this new cinematographic episode.
“Avengers: Infinity War”: a foretaste of the plot
After the events of “Captain America: Civil War”, we saw the group of avengers divide, with Captain America leaving his shield to fall to the earth. Meanwhile, Iron Man, left without a team to defend him, employs all the means available to him to defend the planet from aliens: from extremely technologically advanced armour of his own invention, to the billion dollar investments available to him. There is a new enemy on the horizon: Thanos, a merciless intergalactic tyrant, who wishes to conquer the universe through the help and possession of the powerful Infinity Gems, some of which are currently in the hands of the Collector, an avid hunter of precious space objects.
This terrible threat demands the intervention of the historic Avengers team, united together: Captain America, Hulk and his “calmer” alter ego, the scientist Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), the god Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and his super-powerful hammer, the mysterious Back Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and his infallible bow, the famous Spiderman (Tom Holland), the android Vision (Paul Bettany) and all the other characters. The union of the Avengers does not seem sufficient to defeat the galactic threat, however – at least not without the help of Star Lord and the Guardians of the Galaxy.

And what will be the future of the Universe?
The question on the lips of all fans of the most famous superheroes on the planet is “What will become of the Marvel universe after “Avengers: Infinity War”? The debated decision taken by the studios not to reveal the titles of the films planned from 2020 onwards has sent fans into a frenzy, faced with the uncertainty of not knowing what to expect after phase 3 (which includes “Avengers: Infinity War” and its sequel). The most persistent rumours seem to suggest that we may see the death of some of the most beloved superheroes in the epic battle against Thanos and the appearance of new actors and characters who will take up the legacy of the old ones, in a thoroughly unexpected turn of events in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
What seems fairly certain is that other superheroes will be introduced, as has already been anticipated with the releases of “Spiderman: Homecoming” and “Black Panther”, and as the upcoming “Anti-Man and The Wasp” and “Captain Marvel” also suggest. Great innovations also seem to be arriving especially from space, seeing as James Gunn has confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 will conclude the saga and that there may be some spin-offs in the near future. There seems to be another interesting development underway in the world of rights: indeed, it seems that Disney and Marvel are set to regain possession of characters that are currently in the hands of other studios, especially the Fantastic 4 and the X Men. If this is the case, we can really expect anything.
